It was a good, wintery weekend! Friday was a pretty slow day at work, so Jen and I went out for lunch to that new supermarket across the street. (We both got delicious sandwiches with lettuce, tomato, and mozzarella, but Jen was halfway through hers before she realized they also had prosciutto.) For dinner, GG and I came back to the supermarket and tried their sushi – it was very good, and I was pleased to see they have more vegetable-only options than most supermarket sushi selections. Then we wandered around and bought a bunch of random stuff. But! We got a bag of pre-shredded fondue cheese which I am using for dinner tonight, so that will be awesome.

I was up early on Saturday to go do some errands – post office, food shopping, gas station, etc. When I got home I had a quick lunch, then it was time to get ready for our first holiday concert of the year. They were predicting snow for Saturday, but at that point it was just raining, so I wasn’t worried about it being my turn to drive for our carpool. We drove out to the Veterans Center for our concert, which was in a cafeteria with one whole wall of windows. As we sat there waiting to begin, the rain turned to snow, which stuck to the pine trees outside and made a nice backdrop to the Christmas tree set up in front of the window. It continued throughout the concert and looked really lovely… However, it wasn’t so lovely having to clean off the car and slowly drive home through the snow and slush. I have to say, though, the car did great!

I spent the rest of Saturday curled up on the sofa with my laptop. GG was out working, and it gets dark so early, I had kind of a weird sense of time. It was 9 PM before I realized I hadn’t even eaten dinner! But my evening laziness/napping paid off because I was able to stay awake to watch all of Saturday Night Live, which everyone’s been saying was possibly the funniest episode of the season. Our favorite part, definitely, was their parody of the Gathering of the Juggalos commercial. As it was happening, GG and I were looking at each other like, “Are they really doing this? Awesome!”

I slept in on Sunday, which I kind of hate doing, but I needed to. Then after I woke up I stayed in bed to read for a while. I got A Mercy from the library on Thursday and I have probably one chapter left now. The first couple chapters were slow and it bothered me that the point of view switches between all the characters, but once you get into it it goes really quickly, plus it’s short and has huge margins! I’ve heard the end is really amazing, so I’m excited to finish it.

When I finally got up, it seemed pointless to bother getting showered and dressed, so I just stayed in my “around the house” clothes and did some laundry and cleaning. I did actually throw on jeans later in the afternoon to go to the mall (!) to get a gift card. I foolishly thought it wouldn’t be that bad on a Sunday afternoon, but I was wrong – anytime between Black Friday and New Year’s is a bad time to go to the mall. Luckily, GG and I have a secret spot where there’s always decent parking!

Looks like another boring week is ahead of me, but that’s probabaly a good thing, it’ll give me a chance to do my Christmas cards and shop for gifts. I was putting it off and putting it off, but Christmas is almost here!
