Hibachi, Pillow and Planters, House Coincidence

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

GG and I decided kind of at the last minute to celebrate the 6-year anniversary of our first date by going out to dinner at Hibachi (which also happens to be where we went after we got married, if you recall). We still had a gift certificate for there from Christmas that we hadn’t used yet. We ended up sitting next to this other couple, who asked if we were celebrating anything special, and it turned out that they were also celebrating their wedding anniversary. For the first time ever we had a non-Asian chef! He was really good, though. He did burn the rice a little, but the steak was probably the best I’d ever had there. And he was very very fast.

After dinner, we went to Petsmart to look at the kittens. They had the cutest sets of sibbling kitties there! I so would’ve gotten one but then we’d have to keep them as a pair and then we’d have five cats which is a bit much. Then we went to Linens n Things, where I had another gift card to spend. I got a body pillow, which I’d wanted for a while (I called it my “GG replacement pillow”), and we got a big planter pot. I’d picked up one at JoAnn’s last weekend that looks like a wooden barrel, but I like this one more, it’s a little fancier, and it was on sale. So I’ll probably return the barrel one, and then this weekend I’ll get some dirt and a bush and finally have a plant in front of our house like I’ve wanted for three years!

Speaking of the house, here’s a weird story: An old friend from high school found me on Facebook Monday night and we were writing back and forth. She got married a couple months ago and changed her name, so I didn’t recognize her at first. Turns out she lives just north of me, and we deduced that she probably drives past my house on her way to work. She was asking about landmarks in town that I was near, and then she wrote wouldn’t it be funny if I lived in her in-laws’ old house. And that’s when I realized… her new last name is the same as the family we bought the house from! Small world! (GG wanted me to tell her to thank her in-laws for leaving us a back yard full of dog poop, but I didn’t mention anything about that…) I sent her some pictures of our house, and she likes what we’ve done with the place, so yay.

I’m taking a vacation day tomorrow, so today is my last day of work for the week, and it’s already half over! Whee..!
