Tag! I’m it!

I’ve been tagged by Vickie to do this thing – I think this may be the first time I was specifically tagged by someone, so thanks!

The rules:

  1. Link to your tagger and post these rules.
  2. Share 7 facts about yourself: some random, some weird.
  3. Tag 7 people at the end of your post and list their names (linking to them).
  4. Let them know they’ve been tagged by leaving a comment at their blogs.

And now my seven facts:

  1. Every morning at work I have a cup of tea and some oatmeal. I might die if I don’t (especially the oatmeal).
  2. I really don’t mind doing laundry.
  3. I have a pair of glasses but was told (by the eye doctor!) pretty much to never wear them.
  4. I deal with about 9000 acronyms at work. Seriously. Like, “I just issued a new eLM for GCT RDC users that will be tracked in TOPS for ERO but not ARO or GMA,” or “I spent last week at the WCC meeting with the WDC about RAWWW.”
  5. I try not to let myself get wrapped up in too many TV shows. Right now it’s Heroes and The Office, and then Project Runway starts up next month and that’s it.
  6. I love bunnies and koalas but I don’t think I’d like either as a pet. Koalas are mean (when they’re not sleeping) and bunnies have sharp teeth.
  7. I invented the smiley face emoticon with the round nose! :o)

And the people I’m going to tag… Wow, I don’t think I even know seven people who both a) read my blog and b) are bloggers themselves. So if you would like to do this, just go ahead and do it and then maybe let me know.

Heroes Season 2 Episode 4: The Kindness of Strangers

I’m surprised I didn’t get hiccups during this episode, because it kept me gasping in disbelief! Also, I think each episode needs to be about three hours long, because one just isn’t enough.

Sylar surprisingly made his way out of the jungle! (Still want to know how he got there in the first place.) Does he expel cockroaches, or do they just turn up whenever he’s around? Nathan shaved his beard but he still kind of looks like crap. (Even in real life, I mean, not just in his imaginary mirror view of himself.) Micah’s cousin can do anything she sees on TV? Claire’s lies are absolutely going to catch up to her. Odessa – in the Ukraine! Matt’s dad is in Philadelphia! Woot. Next week’s episode looks crazy.

MU Homecoming 2007

Saturday was Homecoming at MU. I had a bunch of plans lined up, and I was going to get up at 5:30 and be out at school before they closed the roads for the parade at 8:45.

So I got up at 5:30, no problem, and first had to go to GG’s parents’ house to feed their cats. GG was supposed to do it but his band got a last minute show on the Jersey shore, and he was in New Jersey from Friday night until he got home at 6 AM Sunday morning. So anyway, I fed the cats. Then I headed out to MU. I made great time and arrived around 8:30. I got a good parking spot, and started wandering around campus. I walked through the art building, where I spent quite a lot of time durin school. There was a great student exhibit in the third floor gallery, and I was pretty impressed by the graphic design work that the students are producing!

After the art building, I headed to the SMC (Student Memorial Center, pronounced “smack”), and got a breakfast sandwich and some juice. While there, my brother called me to let me know he was awake, so I headed to his house. He’s living in this house just off campus with three other guys, and boy is it ever a “college boy house.” I won’t get into it, suffice to say it’s littered with beer cans and has some weird smells. They seem to be getting along well there, though, and it’s a neat little old house for them.

My brother and I hung out at his place for probably a couple hours, and then we decided to go get some lunch. We walked down to this cafe (where I always end up taking him for lunch when I come to visit at school), and the parade was still going by, so we watched that for about half an hour until it was over. I caught the PSP float… Well it wasn’t a float, it was their Charity King nominee in a car with some other Brothers walking alongside. So we went in and got lunch – he had some sort of turkey sandwich and I had a vegetable wrap. (Remember this, it will be important later.) After lunch, we went our seperate ways – he went home to sleep or get ready for the night’s kegger or whatever, and I walked all over the place before going back to the SMC, where I ran into a couple other people.

Lina eventually showed up, and we wandered around campus together some more. By this point I was feeling a little tired, having been up since 5:30 and walking around all day, so I grabbed this canned Starbucks coffee drink (from the on-campus convenience store I used to work in – ah, memories). Shortly after, Christine called to tell me she was on campus and ready to meet up! She and Lina and I walked to the pond on campus and checked out some stuff there, and discovered that what had once been a steep hill by the dining hall and auditorium was now a waterfall/garden/memorial thing in honor of the previous president’s wife.

We started taking pictures there, and it was pretty crazy. First I got a picture with Lina:

Then I got one with Christine:

While Christine and I were posing, this group of guys walked by, and one of them jumped in front of us and wouldn’t leave until we had a photo with him!

Then the rest of the guys gathered around and we got a picture with all of them!

The guy in the plaid shirt knows my brother! (Though my brother said he doesn’t recognize any of the guys in the photo.)

Christine had to head out, and Lina and I kept wandering around campus. We went into the psychology/humanities/foreign languages building and I sat down for a minute. Suddenly, I was not feeling good. We got up to leave and I felt even worse. I went into the bathroom and thought for sure I was going to throw up, but I didn’t, so we headed towards the stadium for the football game. It was already the third quarter, and they were letting people in for free. However, I was just not feeling good. I told Lina where our Brothers usually sit in the stands, and I headed back to my car to try to take a nap.

Lina called me a couple minutes after I got to my car. Apparently, she didn’t see any Brothers at the game. She’d called Dan (whose house we were going to go to after the game) and he said I could come over early and nap at his house if I wanted. I gladly took him up on the offer, and drove over to his place. I crashed on his bed and slept for about an hour. By the time I got up and wandered out into the living room, most of the other guests had arrived. I still wasn’t feeling that great, so I just sat on the sofa with my head still, sipping a glass of water, while everyone else drank beer and ate sandwiches. I did try to at least participate in the conversation, which was very entertaining. After a while, most of the girls had moved upstairs to the loft to look something up on Dan’s computer, and most of the guys were talking in the kitchen. I went to the bathroom for a second and… threw up. Whew! So gross (um, it appeared to be bits of that vegetable wrap I’d had for lunch), but I felt so much better. I went into the kitchen and joined in the conversation and had a good time for the last, like, 30 minutes that I was there. But then everyone wanted to head out to the bar and it was a bit later than I’d planned on staying out there anyway, so when everyone left for the bar I just headed home.

So… good, busy day. Sunday was spent relaxing and catchin up on my chores. And today was so busy at work – and my boss isn’t even around this week (luckily)!

7 Habits

So today we’re doing the 7 Habits of Highly Effective people workshop – my whole department at work. And I’m the person on the planning committee who researched all the courses, chose the course, booked the instructor, etc. And all day people have been telling me what a great course I picked and what a great instructor we got! So that makes me feel good :o)

We’re in, I think, our last break of the day. When we get back, we have habits 6 and 7 to get through (but I think 7 is quick, it’s basically just, “Do habits 1-6 on a regular basis”), and then we have our big dinner.

By the way, it looks like people are liking the floorplan option below where the bed is against the wall on the left. That looks like a good choice, I won’t have to move the biggest pieces of furniture…

I’ve been using this web site, Floorplanner.com, to rearrange the furniture in my office/craft room/guest room/clothes storage area. The situation is getting pretty crazy in here.

So here’s how the room is currently set up. (Keep in mind that none of these pictures include my drawer units, boxes of random stuff, other things laying around, etc.) As you can see, the bookcase and my craft/serwing table and squished together against the wall between the windows and radiators. Also, the head of the bed is right by the door into the room, and they always say that when the person laying the bed can’t see the door, it creates tension in the room. It’s not a good setup.

Now here’s two potential new layouts. What do you think?

In other news, day one of our department Annual Meeting today actually went really well! The presentations were all just the right length, nothing dragged on or got too boring. We did this icebreaker game where we had to guess whose baby pictures were whose, and Heather and I tied for first place! We each guessed 28 out of 35 correctly, and won a big mug of candy :o) Also, unbeknownst to me, I won an Above and Beyond award, which is actually a company thing, not a department thing. I was so surprised! (And there is money associated with this award..!)

That’s all for now… Two more days of Annual Meeting, but no more actual “meetings.” Tomorrow we’re doing 7 Habits of Highly Effective People all day (this was the part I planned, as a member of the planning committee), and having a big dinner afterwards. And Thursday we’re going on a tour of our office in Philadelphia. It’s just fun to see everyone all at once, especially our co-workers from Europe.

Heroes Season 2 Episode 3: Kindred

10 PM on Mondays is the most horrible part of my week… because it’s the longest possible time before another episode of Heroes! I haven’t written much about Season 2 yet, but it’s not disappointing me.

Claire and West’s story was very sweet – though the flying scene was pretty cheesy. And he must be pretty strong to hold her that whole time, I mean not that she’s heavy, but it must’ve been a bit of a strain on him. Though, if he’d dropped her, it’s not like she’d die! I am just hoping that he doesn’t convince her to murder her father..! (As that painting might lead one to believe.) Girls can do crazy things when they are in love with a new boyfriend… You know, I am actually surprised that the Haitian didn’t completely wipe HRG (from before, during, and after the kidnapping) from West’s memory.

I wonder what’s going to happen to poor Hiro. He must realize that if he gets the girl, he’ll break history! I also wonder if DL is really dead…

And Sylar… While I was glad to see Zach Quinto and his hott eyebrows back this week (finally!), I am a little confused about what was going on. Who was Candice working for? Clearly, someone put her in the jungle shack and did surgery on Sylar. Is it possible that being dead is just another illusion? Or else, what’s wrong with Sylar that he can do his killing and apparently his personal brain surgery, but can’t actually use the powers? Oh well, I’m totally happy with (Betty)/Candice/Michelle getting killed off – I always said she was way too powerful.

[Insert Peter Petrelli/Dick in a Box joke here.] What was up with his tattoo changing?! I guess it disappeared because it was technically a wound?

Computer, Moe’s, Wardrobe, Baby Hats

My computer has been acting really funky for the past few months. At first, it would just randomly restart sometimes. Then that started happening more and more frequently. Then it would sometimes just freeze completely and I’d have to restart it manually. It was getting really bad, and would usually happen at least once every time I went to use it. Sometimes when it restarted a window would come up automatically from Microsoft with their suggestions on what the problem was and how to correct it. Usually it said they had no idea what the problem was. Then once it said the problem was caused by my external Zip drive, which I hardly use, so I disconnected and uninstalled it. A couple times now, it said the problem was caused by my antivirus software, and to make sure that it’s up to date (it is) and that there aren’t two different antivirus things running at the same time (there aren’t). On Saturday morning it had a major freakout where I couldn’t even turn the computer back on – it would just sit there and beep! I had to turn off the plug strip, wait a while, and then came back and it worked fine like nothing had happened. Ugh! So the first thing I did was back up all my files on GG’s external hard drive, and then I went online and ordered a new Dell! It should be here next week :o)

In other news this weekend, GG and I went to a restaurant/bar on Friday night for a going away party for a former co-worker of his who’s moving to Arizona. The place is called Moe’s, and it’s all Simpsons themed! There’s Simpsons murals on the walls, and statues of the characters, and the characters are in the menu. They even serve Duff beer! Apparently, people were always thinking that the owners would probably get in trouble if Fox ever found out about the place, but eventually Fox found out and they were totally cool with it! So it was pretty fun – this guy has some interesting friends, like a freak show performer who drives nails up his nose! (We left shortly before he performed his nail trick, unfortunately.)

Jess came over on Sunday morning – with her nice big SUV – and we went to Ikea to get that wardrobe I wanted. It just fit in her truck, so I know there’s no way it would’ve fit in my car. It was much bigger and heaver than I’d realized. I spent all afternoon building this thing, and it was hot and I didn’t have much room to maneuver. But now it’s built, and it looks great! I put half my clothes in there, and my regular closet still seems completely full! I want to organize things a bit better overall in that room, though. It’s serving as an office, craft room, guest bedroom, and my dressing room (or at least clothes storage), and it seems like it’s getting junkier and junkier. I may need to move some things down to the basement, and there’s definitely some stuff I just need to get rid of.

Speaking of craft room, someone from etsy bought all three of the knit baby caps that were for sale in my shop, and ordered five additional ones in different color combinations! I already made two of the five last night, and I need to go buy one more ball of yarn today to make some of the others. She has a baby boutique and likes to sell handmade items from etsy sellers there! So, on one hand I’m kind of sad that they’re going to be resold. But on the other hand, it’ll be good exposure (I’ll be sure to tag everything and include business cards)!

Also, they’re blocking Flickr from work again! Boo :o(

Comedians of Comedy

Yay! GG and I are going to go see the Comedians of Comedy (featuring Patton Oswalt, Brian Posehn, Maria Bamford, Jasper Redd and John “Imaginary Boyfriend” Mulaney) at the TLA at the end of the month!

Now, here’s a picture of Sacha with cute feet:
