The Wedding

So, I guess everyone has been waiting with baited breath for a recap of yesterday! Here you go!

We got up, bla bla, it was a regular boring morning, I fed the cats, etc. Family members started arriving around 10:30, dropped off some gifts at our house, and took some pictures. Around 10:45, we all walked across the street to the courthouse.

Now here is the one part of the day that I wish had gone differently: I really wish we had been able to meet with the judge beforehand, to discuss things like where to stand, what he was going to say, how to pronounce my name… As it was, I introduced myself to him moments before going into the courtroom. When we got there, he was like, “Oh just stand wherever you want,” and it ended up that GG and I were in the front of the room, our families were sitting in the seats, and the judge was standing between us and our families, kind of off to one side, so I had to turn around to see him. The whole thing was very awkward, GG and I ended up standing kind of far apart, we didn’t know what to do with our hands or when to do the rings anything else. Oh and the judge could not say my name for anything! Every time he said it, my family kind of giggled. But it was over quickly! And the vows and things that he read were very nice.

Then everyone walked back to our place for champagne (we somehow ended up with four bottles! Plus one more as a gift!) and presents. We now have just about everything that was on our registry – and plenty of Target gift cards, so we can get whatever was left. There were also some sweet extras, like a box of brownie mix to go with the pan my grandmother got me, and a pair of beautiful Lenox champagne flutes from my mom and brother!

After all that, it was time for lunch. Everyone piled into cars, and we drove to the Hibachi restaurant. With nine of us there, we had a whole table to ourselves. My mom mentioned to the chef and the waiter that GG and I had just gotten married, but luckily they didn’t do anything special/stupid. We just had a very nice lunch, and then took some more pictures of the group in the restaurant lobby.

Everyone left from there, since going back to our place would have been counter-productive for everyone else. So GG and I just went home and started cleaning everything up and putting things away. We set up our new hose (with 7-way nozzle attachment!) and GG washed his car off. Then we had a nap for about an hour, before heading into the city for GG’s open mic night!

The comedy club was a lot of fun, apparently he’d told most of the other comedians about his plans, so they were all congratulating us and stuff. He even worked it into his act a little, and showed off his ring. He did really well, but he performed pretty late in the show (which is a good thing!), and by the time he was finished, I was dying of a headache. So we left a little early. When we got home, I fell asleep on the sofa for a little bit, before going up to bed. So Sharkey, I was asleep on the couch at 11:20 last night ;o)

And now I’m back at work, and everyone’s been congratulating me, and it’s all very nice, but I’m kind of glad the whole thing is over. Besides the ring, nothing’s really changed.

Less than 24 hours!

It’s been a pretty eventful weekend. Animocity Pierre on Friday was awesome – I am amazed that so much humor can come out of just a couple guys. When we left the skies opened up, and we ran back to the car in a thunderstorm.

Saturday I went with my mom for manicures and pedicures. My nails turned out nice (especially my toes – I’ve never gotten a pedi before!), but the women at the nail place seemed kind of rude, and my mom and I ended up sitting at tables across the room from each other, so we didn’t even really get to do it “together.” Afterwards, she gave me a big bag of gifts, including this “something old/something blue” thing she showed me when I was really little. It’s an old old penny crocheted inside this little net with a blue thread. Who even knows how old this penny must be?! I wasn’t even thinking about carrying those things with me, but now I guess I might.

Saturday night GG and I went to the Devon Horse Show, which neither of us had been to for years. I was really looking forward to getting one of these “lemon stick” things, which is a lemon with the top cut off, and one of those lemon stick candies stuck in. As you suck the candy stick, you suck up lemon juice, too. It’s all very yummy. Well, I bit into the stick, and the bonding I got when I chipped my front tooth a couple years ago came out! I was freaking out. It’s not a big chip, but it was very noticable from certain angles. So that was bugging me for the rest of the weekend.

Sunday I did a bunch of stuff around the house while GG was in New Jersey working on painting a mural in this guy’s house. He wants to get into mural painting now. For the first few he does, he just wants to charge like $100 plus the cost of supplies, and then once he builds up a portfolio he can start charging more. Mural painters are in high demand, so this could turn into something really big for him. Sunday night was the band anniversary party. Everything really turned out great – the set-up, the number of people attending, the food, the decorations, and even the talent show. GG and I were even given a nice (surprise!) wedding gift from the band!

First thing this morning, I called the dentist, and luckily they were able to squeeze me in this afternoon! I spent the morning cleaning and doing some more stuff around here, and GG and I walked over to the courthouse to pay for the judge and drop off our marriage license. At 3:15, I went to get re-bonded at the dentist. It was quick and painless, and I look (and feel!) so much better now. Then GG and I did a few errands, and went to Zuzu for Margarita Monday – even though we both got sangria.

Tomorrow is the day!!!

Wedding Countdown ’06!

Another late morning – I had to hang out at home for a while to help GG corral Ivan into the cat carrier for his trip to the vet today (teeth cleaning). So I got to work late again. Today was supposed to be the first half-day of the year, but because I was an hour and a half late today, and two and a half hours late yesterday, I’m going to try to make up all four hours today. Which means I’ll be leaving at a normal time. And also that GG has to pick Ivan up when he’s ready this afternoon.

Tonight we are kicking off our pre-wedding weekend by going out for a nice dinner at one of our favorite Old City places, Serrano. Then we’ll be seeing Animocity Pierre perform at The Five Spot. The fun continues tomorrow when my mom and I go together for manicures and pedicures. Sunday is the band anniversary party, Monday we pay the judge, and Tuesday is 666!

Shower!

I thought we were going out to lunch today to see Jen, who’s been out on maternity leave for the past month, and her daughters. However, when we got there, there were a lot more people I was expecting, and Julie was like, “Surprise, this is for you!” They threw me a wedding shower! It was all my work friends, and my boss, and my boss’ boss (the only man there). So we had a very nice lunch, and we did get to visit with Jen and her kids, and they even bought some gifts from our registry! (Plus a Target gift card, so we can go back and get whatever people didn’t already give us!) It was very sweet of them, and now of course I will be sending out thank you notes to everyone.

That was a good way to cheer up my sucky day!

Oh plus, GG and his dad got my car running and drove it to NTB, and they replaced the battery, and he’s on his way to get me right now! Yay!

Car troubles…

I got ready for work this morning, went outside, got in the car, turned the key, and… nothing. Nothing at all. Woke up GG, he tried starting the car… nothing. Figuring the battery was dead, he pulled his car around to face mine, I got the jumper cables, and popped my hood. There was all this blue crusty stuff on the negative terminal on the battery. GG called his dad, who knows everything about everything. His dad said he should clean the stuff off of there, but no way were we touching that! So I called AAA. They were there in about an hour and a half, and I have to say, the man who came and the people I spoke to on the phone were all as nice as could be, very friendly and helpful. The AAA battery man arrived a little after 8:30 and used some special stuff to clean off the blue crust, which was battery acid. He tried to jump start it, but then he said he could replace it right then. Okay, great! No, wait, he didn’t have the right battery on his truck. So he jumped it and said to let it run for 20 minutes and that should fix it. Then he left. 20 minutes later, the car was still running, I turned it off and then back on, just to make sure it was going to work. Nope, nothing! (Good thing this happened at home, and that I didn’t drive it to work and get stuck there!) Sooo… GG drove me to work, and hopefully today his dad can come by and put in a new battery for me.

So I got to work two hours late, and I really can’t stay late tonight to make up the time, because GG got a stand-up gig tonight! And also, he’s picking me up from work! So I guess I’ll stay late tomorrow, it was supposed to be a half-day anyway, so I can just make up my time then…

Oh, and now I’m at work and the scroll wheel on my mouse is not working for some reason, which is really bugging me! Ugh! [Edit – 10:39 AM] Okay, now the scroll wheel is working again. Weird. [/Edit]
